The garden redesign details
-
With an outdated and tired look, the garden needed a total redesign to be brought up to date and give it character.
Our client was looking for something that would have real impact and connect the new extension with the garden. As a keen gardener, she was wanted to maximise the planting space in her small, tapering garden, and didn’t want a lawn.
-
The design hinges off a large , south facing bed on the right hand side, that extends across the centre of the garden to allow the gravel path to curve around it and extend perspective to give the impression that the garden is longer than it is.
This also gently divides the garden to allow for a second, more private seating area at the back, to catch the sun at different times of day.
Beyong the rear seating area a bin store is cleverly hidden behind a large planter that acts as the back rest for part of the seating.
The fence is built from larch battens using wider than usual gaps, allowing more light through to the north facing bed on the left. The varying heights gives privacy close to the house, whilst allowing more connection the friendly neighbours on each side.
The big, bold planting, includes hot colours and large, striking leaves to give a truely exotic feel, with plants such as bamboo, banana and canna setting the style.
